And, as featured on the back cover of the Over News, Aug/Sept 2021…
After spending 15 years building a boat in their New Road back garden, on June 4th 2021 Simon set sail to solo circumnavigate the coast of Britain. After leaving Burnham-on-Crouch in Essex, once in the open sea he headed north. On occasion, he has experienced a rough and rolling sea, at other times, he has been obliged to motor sail, at one point with dolphins travelling alongside. He has anchored at sea and also moored at marinas; the latter allowing for the carrying out of running repairs, refuelling, replenishment of stocks and a visit to the laundrette. At the time of writing, Simon is sailing amongst the scuttled German fleet in Scapa Flow in the Orkney Isles.

This 15th Century bridge crossing the River Great Ouse incorporates a chapel dedicated by the monks to Saint Ledger; it is one of only four bridges in England to incorporate such a structure. It later served as a toll house and by 1736, two extra floors were added. During the 1850s it became a notorious public house and then a Drs surgery. By 1930 and the discovery of a weakened structure, the extra stories were removed and the building, with a crypt around two metres above the water level, was restored.
